I’m a college professor, Ironman and surround myself with music. I started to document my triathlon racing here but there is a lot more to my day-to-day life. I'm looking to share where life takes me and hope you come along for the journey. Feel free to follow along on socials (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter all are @seventypoint3) or comment on anything I write here. For a more complete backstory visit my bio page or see where I’ll be racing or speaking on my public schedule.
I took last year off. Almost no cycling, running or swimming for a year and it truly is starting over with that kind of break. Much of this last year was a reset. After leaving a 20 year career I felt lost. The only job I really knew was gone and I did not know what was next for me. I
Growing up on the edge of The Catskills, I’ve looked at the Tour of the Catskills for the past few years but didn’t think I’d get the chance to fit this into my schedule. I love that the race has so many categories to race in, with current military or retired military as classifications. I did not see a paracycling category…
I have never done a gravel grinder but watch YouTube videos on some of what I consider epic races. I enjoy what I perceive to be the culture surrounding the gravel community but I’ve never lived it, experienced it or even been at a race to see it in person. Until today.
Mark Wilson has been putting on races all across New York but this was the first 70.3 among his race offerings. With all other 70.3 races pushed to 2021, I decided to scratch the racing itch and go to the shores of Lake Erie for an early September half Iron.
As more and more Ironman events have been postponed, I’ve spent a little more time on my mountain bike. I’m keeping an eye on the Xterra races since they are much smaller than Ironman races and also more remote. I’m hopeful that this combination will lead to a few of these actually taking place…
Over the last year I’ve had a few questions about what I’m eating. Friends and colleagues have seen me get to a healthy weight with changes in training and nutrition. I’ll start to share a few of the meals (more)
Yesterday runners logged 2.23 miles for Ahmaud Arbery who was shot and killed on February 23. He was unarmed and his murder has pulled together the running community to shed some light on this tragedy. (more)
I have wanderlust. I love travel and do get a little anxious when I’m in one place for a long time and COVID has heightened my restlessness because I had no races for the majority of 2020. I needed a bit to satisfy this need to wander so that it could settle me down. When my last apartment was being sold, I was the upper flat of a two family house, I knew it was time to pack. (cont.)
