Getting Away To Read

I live in a small apartment and 95% of the time is spent in one room with my bike trainer, desk for work and couch for relaxing while watching television. The space can’t be larger than 200 square feet and over the last few days I’ve not had much of a chance to leave that cell. I needed to get out today after another morning on Zoom. My Wattie Ink. masks arrived today and the temperatures were a shade above 50 degrees so I decided to take my son’s Cannondale along the crushed stone paths of the Erie Canal to find a spot to read “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins. I ended up stopping about 7 miles from my place next to a small farm I typically pass on longer road rides. The farm has a plenty of cage free chickens, fowl and a handful of peacock wandering the property. I’ve come close to running into the birds before as they wander onto the shoulder of the road (it’s lightly traveled) and have been annoyed at their presence. Today I was thankful to be near them. It was so liberating to be outside, without a laptop in my face, holding a physical book with a cup of coffee.

Side note - I’ve never had a travel thermos or mug that fit in my water bottle holder until this week so was sure to add some coffee to the mix.

Of course I filmed it for a TikTok since that has been a nice distraction during this time of isolation. If you’re able, take some time to get outside and grab a book. I found that the the time away from the computer screen was needed and I’m setting a goal to get at least 30 minutes a day with a book during the daylight to help break up my day.
